NRC Seeks Input on Streamlined Reactor Review Proposal

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is seeking public comments through 18 December 2024 on its updated proposal to streamline environmental reviews for new nuclear reactors by codifying the NRC's draft Generic Environmental Impact Statement for Licensing of New Nuclear Reactors, or NR GEIS. The GEIS aims to identify common environmental impacts, reducing the need to perform a number of extensive project-specific analyses and potentially saving up to $2 million per application.
